The showcase was a great success with performances by Crasdant, Fernhill, Gwenan Gibbard, Toreth and Cass Meurig. This is the first year that there has been a significant Welsh presence at the festival, long may it continue! Archive News Carreg Lafar performed again at the Lorient Interceltic Festival from 29th July to 5th August 2006, together with Crasdant, harpist Gwenan Gibbard and Bagad Pibau Morgannwg. The band were joined by Danny KilBride on guitar, and piper Gafin Morgan. 2005 was a quiet year for the band. Antwn spent time performing as a piper with Gafin Morgan as Dwylaw Chwyth in Lorient and at the Pibau Pencader pipe festival. The duo also led the Cardiff St David's Day Parade in 2005 and 2006 and again this year. More information about Dwylaw Chwyth is available at the Welsh Bagpipes website. 'Profiad' was officially launched at the Norwegian Church Arts Centre in Cardiff on 22 November 2002, with Siwsann George, who was launching a new Mabsant compilation album. It was an informal evening, with food and an opportunity for the audience to meet and talk with all of the musicians. Lawson Dando was guest guitarist as well performing two piano pieces from his own new album. A big thanks goes to Siwsann George and Menna at Sain for all of their work in helping to organise the event - Diolch o galon. Profiad was also launched on Saturday 3rd August 2002 at the L'Orient Interceltic Festival, Brittany. It was a particularly special festival year, as Wales was the featured country. The festival takes place during the first 10 days of August and we were representing Wales along with Crasdant, Robin Huw Bowen, the Henneseys and many others. Taplas magazine (folk music in Wales and the Borders) has a feature article about Carreg Lafar in its August 2002 issue. It's the first time the band has been featured in the magazine. We had a really successful trip to the States at the end of the summer
2001, primarily to attend the Festival of Wales event in San Jose, California,
with Robin Huw Bowen and Dafydd Iwan. We kicked of our short tour with
a return visit to the Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Whilst in Michigan we
travelled up to the small town of Evart to perform as the closing act
in the summer series of outdoor concerts there. As part of the festival of Wales, we did a concert with Robin Huw Bowen
and Mary Black at Villa Montalvo in the Santa Cruz mountains. As well
as the Noson Lawen at the festival in San Jose we performed five other
times over the weekend as part of the National Assembly for Wales' marquis
in the San Jose Tapestry of Talent street festival.
One Wales magazine had this to say about our performances in San Jose,
'Carreg Lafar...bash out spirited Welsh roots music while their singer
whirls around like a dervish, doing sexy little whoops and yips. The songs
have a habit of getting under the skin, and I'm humming Carreg Lafar songs
for a fortnight later.' |
